Scores out of 10 · Higher means more of that characteristic About these scores
How to read the scale
Scores run from 0 to 10 and describe how strongly a destination offers each characteristic.
Higher does not always mean better
A higher nightlife score means a livelier scene. A higher quietness score means a calmer atmosphere. The right balance depends on your trip.
Close scores mean similar experiences
Small differences should not decide your trip on their own.
Kata
Choose Kata if...
- You want easy access to the attractive beaches of Kata Yai and Kata Noi.
- You want restaurants and cafés around a beach-focused resort base.
- You prefer relaxed bars and evenings out to a major nightlife district.
The trade-off
Kata is still a developed resort area, with busy roads and popular beaches in high season. Trips to Phuket Town and other coasts need a ride, and nearby beach areas are separated by hills.
Klong Muang
Choose Klong Muang if...
- You want a peaceful beach base away from Ao Nang’s busiest strip.
- You want relaxed resort days with coastal and offshore-island views.
- You prefer slow evenings and time around your beach to a busy itinerary.
The trade-off
Restaurants, bars and services are limited and spread out. Expect to arrange taxis or hotel transfers for more dining choice and many excursions beyond your beach area.

Temperatures are historical average daytime highs, not the highest temperatures you might experience. Rainfall and rainy days are monthly averages, not a forecast. A rainy day need not mean rain all day.
Stay prices are relative to each destination’s usual rates. Holidays can bring extra crowds and higher prices. Sea conditions vary by beach and day; check local conditions before boat trips.
